Rail Transport

The Gilbraith freight terminal provides a fully integrated rail and road facility with 1 kilometre of private sidings, including 125 metres of rail track running through the covered warehouse, allowing offloading of wagons in a weatherproof environment.

The site offers a kilometre of private rail sidings which is connected to the main rail network at both ends and passes directly through the warehouse containing our 25 tonne overhead gantry crane.

Situated close to the West Coast Main Line and served by EWS Railway, we provide a comprehensive facility for receiving incoming bulk rail loads for ongoing road distribution by our own fleet across the North West.

Products currently handled include chipboard, MDF and other timber products from Switzerland, paper reels from Austria and Germany and steel coil from France, Belgium and Luxembourg.

Some of this rail traffic comes through the Channel Tunnel direct from its manufacture, some via the East Coast ports, particularly Hull, loaded direct from the docks into rail wagons.

Our facility provides an ideal, environmentally responsible operation, combining the best elements of bulk rail and efficient road distribution systems.
